Many people ask questions regarding operating system performance in a virtual installation. I run several Linux and Windows systems in virtual under VMware Player and the virtual system all run from an external SSD attached via eSata.

Out of curiosity I just checked the boot times for a cold boot of Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit in Event 100 of the Event Viewer. I think the 23.5 seconds for a cold boot is rather amazing given that there are two possible components that could degrade the performance - VMware Player and the external disk.

Conclusion: A virtual OS performs very well.

System One

  • OS
    Vista and Win7
    System Manufacturer/Model
    2xHP, 2xGateway, 1xDell, 1xSony
