Create System Image Fail Help Please

I am trying to create a system image of my C Drive (Currently a Samsung 840 EVO SSD) to an external HDD. When I try to do this I get the following error:

    "The backup failed.
There was a failure in preparing the backup image of one of the volumes in the backup set.
    Additional Information:
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."

Can anyone help me with this problem? I am currently using windows 8.1 using an Inspiron 7720, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU, 8gb ram,

I haven't created a system image in awhile and figured my SSD may be going because when playing games recently I have been getting a stutter every couple of minutes and figured the drive is failing. Or is this caused by something else?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

For one I will tell you right off - 99% of the time Windows System Images - Fail to restore anyway...

Use this program > Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

To create Backup (Make System Image) your SSD to ExtHDD

Also use macrium to make an emergency recovery disk (boot disk) it will require a 450MB download..

Thank you for the reply! I will try that program in the morning (computer off and on phone atm). Another question: does macrium rewrite that you have blank external/flash drive for either the image of the emergency recovery disk? The current ones i have are not empty, but have tons of room. I currently don't have a black one, which is one reason I opted for an image and not a clone.

you will use macruim to create an image of your SSD and save it on your HDD

The boot disk will allow you to boot the pc in case the SSD is say, erased

The boot disk has marcuim on it so you can restore the image saved on the HDD to the SSD..

You maybe able to write to CD/DVD - I use USB

    1. Here is my Macrium tutoriel. It may help you to get started.

    2. You can also make an image from an elevated command prompt. The command is:

wbAdmin start backup -backupTarget:X: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet

You have to replace "X" with the volume letter of your backup device. Here you don't need any special recovery device. Any 8.1 installation or repair device will do. You can make one from your system. You type recovery on the start screen and "Create a Recovery Drive" will show up. Click there and then "Next". Then follow the wizard.
