file history, how to start over

I have a new computer which my MS Office account restored everything from. Both computers are running Windows 8.1. File Restore didn't miss a beat but I want to start it over from scratch since (1) the storage the location refers to my previous computer and (2) (more importantly) I changed my document folder structure recently. I have considered re-naming the file history folder hoping that Windows will think there is no file history and therefore start over. Will this work?

In previous Windows versions, you could create a new backup but I don't see this option anywhere for File Restore.

Hello Robin,

If you like, you could use either option in the tutorial below to reset File History to default. This will also delete all of your current File History backups. Once finished, you would basically just set up File History from scratch again to start over.

Thanks. That worked. Also needed to delete the File History folder.

When I went back to Control Panel's File History, it stated that there were encrypted files and that they wouldn't be copied. Should I use Command Prompt "cipher"? And then, is there any harm in letting "cipher" change encryption status?

You're most welcome Robin.

That error message just means that File History will not include any encrypted files in the backup.

If you want them included, then you'll need to decrypt the files first. If you need them to stay encrypted at the source, then you could manually copy and paste the encrypted files to where you like for safe keeping as a backup.
