UEFI does not recognize DVD drive but it works in Windows

I just purchased a new desktop computer that has a UEFI bios. The DVD drive works fine reading and writing in Windows 8.1 but I cannot boot from the CD because it doesn't show up in the bios boot order list or anywhere else in the bios. Can someone help me?

    Thanks in advance

it will be listed by model not cd/dvd

press F12 at the first boot logo and you will see a Sony, Toshiba or something

Thanks for the reply, but there is nothing there at all, no model, no dvd. The only listed boot options anywhere in the UEFI bios are the internal hard drive and USB. But it works in windows.

go to mfg's website and check for updated bios, the bios needs to recognize the dvd before it can boot from it

    windows is reconizing it

and it may even be a firmware update for your dvd drive

Thanks for your replies. The bios and driver are both up-to-date according to the HP web site. Still no DVD in the bios. What I cannot understand is how it can not be recognized by he UEFI and yet still work under Windows 8.1. I am pretty sure that should be impossible....

What's the make and model of your PC? It wil be something like 'Acer Aspire ES1-512'. Is it an internal DVD player that came already fitted or an external USB one?

Are you using an external dvd player?

Edit: Found your pc ..it does.

What disk are you trying to boot up? If it's not a MS one or one approved by them you might have to disable Secure Boot to run it.

If you have a bootable Windows disk try booting up with it ...if it works then you need to disable secure boot.

What's on the DVD that you are trying to boot from? Depending on what it is you may have to disable secure boot in the BIOS. Are you sure the DVD is in fact bootable? Inserting the CD/DVD into the drive and having it Auto Run in Windows doesn't mean its also bootable. They are two different things.

The UEFI firmware settings determines what type of boot devices are available in the boot menu. On some OEM computers, you must insert Secure Boot compatible DVD, for example Windows 8/8.1 64-bit DVD.
