I believe you stated in an earlier post that Sfc /scannow could not fix all corruptions. But after running Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and another pass with Sfc /scannow show no corruptions.

If that is the case then Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth did it's job.

You need to get Malwarebytes up and running and do a scan. Not being able to scan with Malwarebytes is troublesome. It doesn't necessarily confirm you have a malware problem but it points in that direction.

A clean scan with Sfc /scannow is good news.

Malwarebytes has a feature called Chameleon, there are several variations of the scan that can possibly launch even if being blocked by malware.

I'm getting help from their forum for starting it up. In safe mode I was able to start it up and even run a scan, but the scan found nothing. I think there is some sort of issue with the response time of the pc, because all symptoms are related to that. I mean, programs that start on bootup take over an hour to start! And I know it's not performance, because this pc is only about a month old and is lightning fast. But since MalwareBytes and avast found absolutely nothing, what could this be?

If you can run a scan with MB then that is a good thing. As for performance, without having any idea what programs you have installed it's hard to say. If you had a recent Restore Point I would say use it otherwise I think I would start disabling or uninstalling things that were added in search of the culprit. Sounds like at this point something is eating up resources. Look at Task Manager to see what's running. What's the disk activity like? and processor utilization?

I've tried a restore point but it didn't work unfortunately. No programs were installed recently before the incident. I have been monitoring task manager and everything seems normal. At this point I'm running out of options. If there is nothing left to do that anyone here can suggest, I will simply do a refresh, I'm sure that'll do it, as painstaking as it is to restore all my programs and stuff.

    A couple of questions

After start-up and everything is loaded How Much Memory is in use? (Task Manager)

What all is installed for anti-virus/malware?

What is the amount if Disk Fragmentation after you analyze?

Have you checked to see how large your Windows Update Clean-up file is? (Disk Optimization)

you need to use old temp cleaner too . - this one is especially helpful, it forces deletes anything in the windows temp folder. and then Reboots..

Lol maybe I just don't remember doing it, that's all. To answer gator's questions:
about 19% is in use after everything is loaded. I have installed avast after malwarebytes stopped working to check if it really was malware (it found nothing strangely). My hard drive is only 9% fragmented (this info is from a program called Defraggler). And i'm not sure where to check for my windows update clean-up file. brooksndun, i will try all of those and report on the results.

    Hi,

the more I think of it,

    - If you really can't run a scan with Malewarebytes, then forget even wasting time with any of the programs and just "reset" your pc..

well, come to think of it, "refresh" supposedly keeps some of your files.. maybe go on youtube and watch someone refresh their pc and see what they show they still have after they "refresh" it..

I would just "reset".. but you do lose absolutely everything with a "reset"

OK, Your memory status looks good.

I think you should defragment your c drive if that's your primary drive. I think around 10% fragmented is the upper limit of acceptable. I would use the built-in tool. There are a number of ways to get to it and if you have not used it before it will be listed under control panel/administrative tools. Disk Clean-up is there as well.

Do you have the paid version of Malwarebytes? If so I would not have active monitoring on which is only in the paid version as it has been reported to conflict with some AV programs, not all but some.

You should probably run the disk clean-up tool at least to see how large many of the files are. It is also located under Administrative Tools in Control Panel. When you get there, click on System Files and it will show you how large the Windows Update Clean-up file is. Just getting the numbers does not remove anything unless you select run the clean-up.
