    System restore taking many hours

Since installing the updates from the week of December 15th, I have had many, many problems with my system. My Outlook Calendar hangs and sometimes flickers at a very high rate of speed, as well as other drop down menus and even the Task Manager window, typing stops and starts whether it's in an email, Skype, etc., I will randomly hear a Windows loud "ding" sound at about 1.5 second intervals that won't stop until I sign out and back in, as well as other issues. I turned off my AV last night and began a system restore about 6 p.m. or so. It's now 11 a.m. the next morning, and it's still running. Lenovo wants to send me a new hard drive with installation CDs, but my system doesn't have a CD drive. I am working many, many hours every day, 7 days a week, and I don't know where I'm going to find the time to start all over even if I had a CD drive. I use the computer to work, and I have to work today and tomorrow.
I have run SFC scannow, chkdsk /R, Lenovo dignostics etc. etc. etc. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of.
Any suggestions on the never-ending system restore?
    I have a Lenovo Y500 Windows 8.1

Some info would be good. How old is the laptop? How big is the hard drive? If you use it for work, contact your company. They may give you a work laptop. Dell laptops usually last longer than lenovo ones. Try using onedrive or an external hard drive or flash drive to backup your info. Try to refresh the pc. It may help since it makes everything the way it was (except for hardware usage. That cannot be reversed. Try scratching a car and attempt to reverse it. XD or the year.) if refreshing doesn't work, contact lenovo for a flash drive recovery disk. Those exist, but they may charge you. you can even just buy an external USB powered CD-ROM.

The laptop is about 16 months old, and I have a 1TB hard drive. It wasn't a cheap laptop, if I recall it was over $1100. I am a one person company, so I can't ask "my company" for a new laptop.
I bought a Lenovo because of the reviews after having endless problems with a Dell constantly overheating requiring multiple motherboard and heatsink replacements, a power cord that falls out if you breathe on it, etc.
My question here was that System Restore has been running for about 18 hours now. Should I do a hard reset?

18 hours is way too long, it sounds like it's possibly stuck in some kind of loop(it happens in windows 7 sometimes too) Have you tried a hard reset? you'll probably get a blue screen but it should be able to boot after, when it boots go strait to advanced start up and restore from there.

I'm not sure what you mean by "........advanced start up and restore from there". Can you give more detail?

I don't use any typical Windows 8 features. I use Classic Shell for the start button and have everything set up as much like Windows 7 as possible.

    I use Classic Shell
An you wonder why you're having system stability problems(the ones with problems with patch Tuesday updates are the ones using 3rd party theming tools and Anti virus products) I don't mean to sound sarcastic(see my signature).

Now I am stuck in another loop. It says Your PC ran into some problems so we need to restart. It does that over and over again.
