I've had high cpu and disk % all morning long, I literally just looked at my task manager again while typing this and their back to normal. How do I fix this so everything stays at a good level?

When you first log in, windows delays some of the services and startup programs, and that's one of the reasons you see CPU and disk usage spike all morning long. Another is the scheduled maintenance and shadow copy service where it only resumes when the system is on idle.

Can be anything. You have to check in task manager when it is high. Strange things can happen. Recently I had the print spooler running all the time although there was nothing in the print queue.

My disk was staying between 80-87% and when I checked what was causing it there was only 2 things at the time and each thing was between 0.1-0.6mb.

It shows you the process that uses a lot of CPU. Once you have that, post it here and we'll discuss.

The one I have is the windows modules installer worker or something like that, is that the same thing? Do I really need to have the auto update on?

It means that an update initially failed and now the installer constantly tries to install it. If you disable the update installer, the high CPU usage will stop. But then you cannot install any updates any more. So that is no good.

Why don't you run the troubleshooter I posted above and then we'll see whether it could be fixed or whether we need to do further action.

If I put it on manual will I have to manually check for windows updates? Also, where do I go to look at the info in that picture?

Yes, manually.

You look in Services by typing services.msc into Run.
Scroll down to Windows Update.
They are listed in alphabetical order.

Couldn't I just change the settings in windows update under system and security to "never check for updates"? wouldn't that be the same thing as putting it on manual?
