I am trying to repair corrupt files with DISM by going to Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and it gives me the error below. How can I fix it?

I've started having similar problems. Honestly believe it is due to the screwed up updates MS has been releasing lately.

Trying your suggestion David.

I performed the two recommended operations above. The first competed successfully, but the second did not. The message, " The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired" Error: 0x800f081f, DISM failed. No operation was performed." Any suggestions?

I had the same problem a week or so back. Running the operations in the order recommended again the next day for some reason worked.

Brink - I am always having these corrupt file issues in 8.1. I have tracked it closely over the last two months running sfc/scannow daily after each thing I do, playing games, using office, surfing the web, etc. In my case it is consistently happening and being caused by one thing, Windows updates. And my hardware is fine as I've done multiple stress tests and besides the corruption only occurs after Windows updates.

Assuming you have contacts can you please talk to the (maybe its the Windows Phone kids now in charge as I never had these problems in Windows 7) folks at Microsoft and ask them why this is happening? Asking too much maybe but I'm so tired of this. It happened again today with the latest 15 security updates. DISM fixed it, this time.

same issue

Hello, I have the exact same issue as the OP

However, the fix would not work for me. I typed in the four lines in order, and still received the same error, that the source files could not be found. I then tried to open the group editor policy, to enable the "Contact windows update directly". At first it would not find gpedit.msc, so I downloaded a file for those who were missing it. I installed it, opened it, but it does not have the "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair"setting under Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / System ... it's nowhere to be found. I am now stuck.

This program will run System File Checker ( SFC ) and DISM to repair an online Windows image
and will look for the setup media to use as a repair source

Step 1: Download and Extract > RESTOREHEALTH v2.ZIP
Step 2: Insert your Windows Setup Media ( Mounted ISO or DVD or USB )
Step 3: Right Click on RESTOREHEALTH v2.CMD and Run as Administrator

You can download Windows 8.1 Setup Media > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help
This program was tested using the created Setup Media as the source for the repair files.

Thanks for this resource which unfortunately has not worked for me. I first started having a problem after Windows Update installed 3 files today. IE11 will not start at all although other browsers do work. Uninstalling updates and trying system restore have also failed to resolve the issue.

DISM tells me that the image file is repairable so I used your utility which at first refused to recognise a mounted image and asked for a physical disc. This I did with the original Win 8.1 64 bit disc. It copied and mounted the .wim file OK but after running DISM it reported that the source could not be found, unmounted the .wim file and closed the window.

Any further advice please?

Chrisjohn, what media did you use ??

The media created by > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

program does not look for a mounted wim - it looks for the install.wim or install.esd within the setup media

It mounts index 1 and wim files can contain 4 indexes - thus use the create media tool

I used the original DVD that I burnt from the downloaded ISO from which I originally installed Windows 8.1. It had the install.wim file and this seemed to copy over and get mounted. I'll have another try tomorrow downloading it from the link that you posted to see if it makes any difference.
Thanks for your help.

The suggestion is to run DISM, but I get "The source files could not be found."
So I tried the first suggestion here Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Can anyone help me?

David Bailey - thanks very much for your two suggestions above, and I did both, but
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
in my Win 10 Pro 64-bit still gets

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.
The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Where else should I look?

Thanks.
