I clean installed W8.1 , StartIsBack utility and changed the settings. Then I attempted to create a restore point but failed. An error message returned is as below.
I looked the event log but that could not give me any solution.

I suggest you do the followings from the Admin command prompt:

  1. chkdsk /r C:
NOTE: Will take a long time to complete. Sometimes will stall at one spot so be patient.
  2. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  3. sfc /scannow

In addition. Make sure to open the services and check if Volume Shadow Copy is running.

Thanks for your reply.
Befor I saw your reply I went ahead and did as follows:
I uninstalled the StartIsBack utility but the problem condition stayed unchanged. Then I reinstalled W8.1 and the utility, and the problem did not recur.
I regret that I was not patient enough to wait for you repliy, but your suggestion will be save for my future reference.

Antivirus can also create problems like that, (at least it happened to me), Once I disabled AVG everything worked.

The anti-virus was the built-in Windows Defender so that it must be least likely to cause that kind of problem. But I will remember your suggestion and try it when problems like that happens next time.
