Windows 8.1 Automatic Maintenance Running For 5+ Hours

Hey guys,
So today I decided to leave my computer turned on while I went out of my house to do something.
When I came back, as usual the Windows automatic maintenance was running. So, I moved my mouse to tell the computer it was no longer idle so it would stop the maintenance. Usually it does stop, but this time it didn't. I've tried pressing "Stop Maintenance" in Action Center only for that to do absolutely nothing, I've tried rebooting, I've left the computer for 5+ hours to complete this maintenance and it's still going! Yet, all the while there is no CPU or disk activity visible in Task Manager.

So, let me get to the point. What is happening? Why won't this maintenance stop? Is there any way I can see the progress of this maintenance?

Thanks

In the elevated command prompt type sfc /scannow and return.

Failing that try selecting a system restore point prior to when the problem started.
