Hi, I just got a new laptop because my old one's hard drive crashed. For some reason, my laptop is really slow. I got it on December, 5, 2014. Please help explain why it's so slow! Look at the specs! It shouldn't be this slow

Sometimes the antivirus can cause slowdowns (actually, often). I've heard AVG can be notorious for that. There are faster ones available, or you could use the built-in Defender antivirus instead, up to you. In addition, here are some ways to speed things up:

If it doesn't say outright, there are some programs that come with your computer that, if removed, you would experience a faster computer. Dells have all kinds of such programs with big important-sounding names that don't really benefit anything, in all truthfulness.

Dell digital delivery is one such program that isn't needed, but adds slightly to the slowdown. Add all of them together and it creates a noticeable difference. Not sure of all of them off the top of my head, but sometimes they say "dell". You could find out just by looking through your programs that you didn't install yourself. Also, the computer usually is shipped with some kind of antivirus bundle software, such as McAfee. Consequently, if previous antivirus softwares are not removed properly, then you may experience slowdowns through that as well.

I will say though, you may enjoy one or two of these preinstalled programs, such as backup software, etc. But only if you plan to use it (which requires you to go through and set up).
