Favorite USB rescue with UEFI GPT support etc.?

That pretty much says it. At the moment I'm relying on a USB with Macrium Reflect Free. But I would like to get something going for running utilities from a bootable USB.

Macrium Reflect Standard version.

I was meaning to ask the feature that standard has that the free lacks. The feature comparison chart Macrium gives doesn't show the free version. I'm using Free for backups. It has WinPE 4 so I'm wondering what the clincher is to go for the standard. If I can find my license key I should be able to get the upgrade from 4.2 for $33 and change.

The clincher for me is the boot time recovery environment.
Very nice.

Now there is PE 5 too.

You can make pe5 easily if - if you have 8.1 installed -you already have it on your HD.

Adding a wim entry to the boot menu is simple.

About which?

If you are using 8.1 x64, you can use this

If you want to know how to add a wim entry to the boot menu, it is just a bcd entry. You can do it with commnds, but it is easier with Easybcd.

Thanks but the link to Onedrive just gives me a blank. Don't know if it's because I'm in the UK.

I found this post in W7 forums of yours; is it still a useful one for me to use now?

Add Macrium As Boot Entry.JPG

Edit: Got it and installed.

It turns out Macrium Free has PE 5 but not the options shown in the standard release.

Now that I think of it I'm not sure what I am trying to do makes much sense. It would only be really useful for my own system. If I got a virus I'd probably fix it by restoring the image anyway. So I should just get some programs from PortableApps and stick them on a USB. :) No real need for it to be bootable.

MilesAhead,

In what way can a virus hide itself so that it will show up again after a restore/clean/wipe of a hard drive?

I'm asking because is it or isn't it true that now with pretty restricted bios's, and a clean install, that should clean a system?

of course if you reinstall software that was infected from before that wouldn't help but..

Don't buy Lenovo, HP, DeLL, Acer, or anything. ONLY buy ASUS. see for yourself on their forums..
I didn't mention anything to do with virus hiding. The point I made is that there's no real need to make a bootable utility USB. If my system won't boot I would just lay on the saved image. An ordinary USB with portable programs is fine for me. If you are a technician making house calls that's a different story. For me it would not be worth the work to track down all the various drivers needed to make a true general purpose technicians software tool.

I'm not saying it can't be done.

I found out from another user if you create a Recovery Drive USB as in Brink's Tutorial, it has a command line with chkdsk.exe etc.. So that is something.
