I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I had a similar problem with my Dell Precision 370.
had 4GB ram but only 3GB was useable, 1Gb was reserved and could not be changed.

Lots of hits on Google but not fixes I could find.

If you are not running into "free memory error" it's not a big problem because some of that reserved memory will be released when necessary. BTW, with 4GB of RAM with an 8 core processor you are at it's minimum requirements or even under maybe. Normal amount would be 1GB per core, so you may be loosing some of it's performance.

Big CPU, and small memory. I concur with CountMike. More ram would be beneficial!

What do you mean "For a few months now" ??

    Did something change ?

Does windows report 4 GB ?

Every motherboard is different, if you`re not happy with it, by all means scrap it.

That board supports 32 GB of memory, so there`s not reason not to put at least 16 GB in.

    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-970A-DS3P (rev. 1.0)

Could you please explain exactly what you mean by your last sentence ????
