Seeking help in setting up a Ramdisk by using 'ImDisk'

I rarely upgrade my notebooks since Iíve been setting my hands on this HPís ENVY TouchSmart 15 Series Notebook which came with the following specifications:

    - Intel 4th Gen Core i7-4702MQ Processor with 6MB Cache
    - Samsungís 8192MB DDR3 SD RAM
    - 1TB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    - ADATAís 24GB SSD Acceleration Cache
    - 15.6Ē Diagonal Full HD BrightView LED Display with 1920x1080 Resolution
    - Touchscreen, Multitouch enabled
    - Intel HD Graphics 4600
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 4GB DDR5 RAM
    - Windows 8.1 RT (x64 Edition)

When Iíve explored the PC through factory installed operating system in it, Iíve been disappointed to see the multiple RAID Volume Settings between HDD and SSD. Anyhow; Iíve ignored the pre-installed settings and then tested the custom applications one by one in order to verify the performance.

A considerable amount of latency and slow performance Iíve so far faced while operating my Outlook PST resource which is of 28GB of size. Because of the sensitivity and importance of resource Iíve to keep with me most of the time, Iíve thus decided to extend the amount of RAM available with the notebook as well as to replace the 1TB HD with Kingstonís 480GB SSD.

So here is current standing available with us:

    - Intel 4th Gen Core i7-4702MQ Processor with 6MB Cache
    - Kingstonís 16GB DDR3 SD RAM
    - Kingstonís 480GB Solid State Drive
    - ADATAís 24GB SSD Acceleration Cache
    - 15.6Ē Diagonal Full HD BrightView LED Display with 1920x1080 Resolution
    - Touchscreen, Multitouch enabled
    - Intel HD Graphics 4600
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 4GB DDR5 RAM
    - Windows 8.1 Enterprise (x64 Edition)

At this stage Iíve allocated 19900-22800 MB of paging file on ADATAís 24GB SSD and donít wish to use its meagre amount of storage space for any other purpose. Whereas the system managing paging file already existed on Kingstonís 480GB SSD has been removed.

What I now wish to do is to fully configure ADATAís 24GB SSD as Ramdisk as well as to manage the paging file (your suggestible size) on the same.

As Iíve never experienced this cherished ĎImDiskí before and Iím little confused in configuring the optimal settings as per my wishes.

As far as applications are concerned, I use Adobe Photoshop, Microsoftís Expression Web, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook simultaneously.

Iíll highly appreciate your expert opinion in this regard.

So anyone suggest me to go at some other forum for finding an applicable solution?

A RAM disk is as the name suggests a virtual disk that exists in RAM. You can't configure it to use a disk (although some products let you back up your RAM disk to disk). There is no evidence that using a RAM disk will improve your performance as you would be setting aside a portion of your RAM for a specific purpose therefore leaving you with less for general use which will increase paging and decrease performance.

Memory management in Windows 8 is very efficient.

You will see a big increase in performance by replacing your HDD with SDD and doubling your RAM. I would suggest that you do nothing with RAM disk or your paging file. Most likely your small SSD will be slower than your large one so putting it on there will decrease performance. Start of by leaving the paging file system managed and see how your peak commit charge is under normal use - see here Blogs - Mark's Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

Thank you so much for your prompt response. Yes; I've misunderstood previously about the RAM disk and now leaving the settings intact as per your recommendations.
