Windows 8.1 speed degradation over time

So I got this issues almost on all my windows systems over some time, started I guess since win 7.
Basically, after Windows fresh install all goes fine, rebooting goes well and apps starting fast. But after some time, a week or so, Windows starts really slowly. Once I turn on PC, Windows loads into explorer and starting to slowly load skype and QIP (icq). Doing cleaning with CCleaner doesn't help much. After it loads skype and qip it needs like 2-3 mins to "start working properly" cuz if I start launching Firefox, for example, it will load really slow and all tabs gonna freeze for few seconds. Just lagfest...

Any ideas how I can bring back fast start without reinstalling OS?

You'll need to figure out what exactly is causing the problems. Best guess would be a malware infestation, but would need more info to go off of.

Since win install got Avast, so doubt I can have any virus and doubt it can be every time I have this issue since 6ish years already.

  1. Anti Virus software is known to slow down Windows
  2. Unnecessary additional third party softwares installed which run at start up and always run in the background
  3. Uneccessary Windows services that are not needed.
  4. HD Fragmentation/Corrupted.
  5. Incompatible Device Drivers installed.
  6. Many Orphan drivers in the Device Manager.
  7. And the list goes on

While all viruses could be considered malware, not all malware is viruses. You have adware, spyware, and a whole host of other "wares" most of which programs like Avast won't pick up.

Though I can certainly appreciate the effort of the post above mine, most of the points veer off into extreme fringe cases or rely on information that was rendered obsolete 10-15 years ago. Points 2 and 3 are definitely good things to check, however.
