    Slow boot time

Hi everyone, I am new to Windows 8. I recently install Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Almost everything seems to work fine so far except for one particular issue. Before when I was using Windows 7, my computer's boot time was around 30 seconds. Now with Windows 8, it takes a minimum of 1 minute.

It seems many people's Windows 8 have "blazing fast" boot time. Mine just doesn't seem so.

I have yet to resolve this issue. Any help would be great.

    Thanks.

    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64 bit), Linux Mint 17.1 MATE (64 bit)

It's only slightly faster on my PC (a few seconds).

Have you tried updating your drivers?

Make up a backup HDD image first.

Same 'problem' here - using a laptop. Haven't tried it on my main PC yet and maybe never will.

Think boot times are an over rated issue. What's the speed like once it has booted up?

Once the laptop is booted everything seems to run fine. It opens and programs and performs task about the same speed as it would in Windows 7. The only difference is Windows 8 UI and significantly slower boot time.

I see other people posting their Windows 8 boot time and theirs are very quick, all sub-30 seconds. How long does everyone else computer boot up?

Try this, switch off, disconnect the mains, disconnect any USB connections & Ethernet connections, remove the battery and leave it for a while , then reboot and see whether it boots faster.

Hi everyone. It's been a while. Anyways this was since Win8 CP and I was able to solved the issue of 'slow boot' time. For me after uninstalling McAfee I believe (it's been a while). The boot time was quick again ~14 secs.

Now, I've upgraded to Win 8 Pro and it has been booting very quick, ~14 seconds.

My slow boot time issue back then was due to certain programs (McAfee or Norton, I don't quite remember which one but it was a anti-virus program). After uninstalling it ran fine again.

P.S. the only other issue I had was random freezing during Win 8 RP. It hasn't happen yet in Win 8 Pro, but we'll see.

    This is interesting

I found with the previews and the RTM that they would take long in the BIOS but would be stupidly quick in the starting Windows screen and fast to log on

However I bought Windows 8 pro recently and I did notice it to be a lot faster in the bios but slower on the starting Windows screen

I just installed it yesterday and finally gave up on it at 12:30 am. I loaded software and did updates most of the afternoon and evening and when I restarted it the blue windows icon came up and bso something... is up now. Guess I'll wait til morning and see what happens.

For what it's worth... One of our computers here was really slow to boot with a clean install of Windows 8. I turned off Fast Startup, shut down and started back up. Then went in a turned Fast Startup on again. That computer starts up very quickly now, made a huge difference.
