Try dusting your RAM and reinserting it properly. Update your drivers and keep antivirus up to date.

In Power Options, click "choose what power buttons do" in left pane, in system settings window, you can un tick fast start up.

Problems again... When I shut down Windows 8 and then start it again, not a restart, the blue Windows 8 icon appears with the swirling dots for about 5 seconds and then goes black. If I leave it alone for a long time, I have no idea how long, cause I usually do it at bed time, it is working again by morning. My old hard drive died before this and the geek squad installed a new one. The hard drive was the only problem they found when they ran a diagnostic test before they replaced the hard drive and afterwards. Thanks.

Did you try turning Fast Startup off, restart, then turn it back on again? If your HD went bad, did Best Buy install the same version of Windows 8? 32bit or 64bit? Was your HD working when you brought it in to Best Buy, did they just mirrored your install and put it back on the new drive or did they do a clean install of Windows 8? Have you tried doing a clean install yourself?

Did the Fast Startup thing. Fresh install of Windows 8 - 64 bit Pro Pack. Did a couple of hard reboots, let it run overnight and was working fine until last night when I installed the latest 61 mb Windows 8 update and restarted. I am guessing this is something totally different.
