[Request for Help] Windows Update Cleanup not clearing

    Hi guys,
I've been troubleshooting my MSI Laptop GE40 for quite awhile now, but I am just unable to find a solution online.

My laptop is running Windows 8.1, I was doing some cleaning up for my laptop using Disk Cleanup.

After running Disk Cleanup (With System Files), Windows Update files were showing 425mb. However, after checking it and it completed, it will still show 425mb if I run it again.

I've tried the following solutions from online, but it didn't work:
    1. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (Came across this solution via "EightForums")
    2. SFC /Scannow
    3. ChkDisk
    4. Microsoft FixIt (Windows update)
    5. Disk Cleanup (Safe Mode / Administrator account)
It is quite annoying to have this issue surfacing, and the last thing I would do, is to reformat my laptop.
I would appreciate if someone can assist me on this issue. Thanks.

I believe you are missing a step by not cleaning the system files also, see this:

Hi Nuccii, thank you for your reply. I did the Disk Cleanup with "Clean up System File".
The "Windows Update Cleanup" option showed a total of 425MB to be cleaned.

After the Disk Cleanup completed, I restarted my laptop and I ran the Disk Cleanup again. This time, it shows "Windows Update Cleanup" with 425MB again.

Hence, i repeated the steps after every point mentioned above with no luck. I am not sure if the files were already deleted, or there is some corruption of the Disk Cleanup itself.

When you ran the sfc /scannow command did it fix all possible corrupt system files? I would suggest the run
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from the elevated command prompt (Admin) then run the sfc /scannow command afterwards.

Clean UP will only delete what it deems necessary.

    Yes, I did ran Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
with Elevated Command Prompt, also with Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup.

It does repair some files, after restarting the laptop, ran Disk Cleanup with "Clean System Files", the Windows Update Cleanup still shows 425MB files to be remove.

As for SFC /Scannow & Chkdsk, both returned 0 error & 0 file system integrity.

So can i conclude that the Windows Update Cleanup GUI is corrupted by showing 425MB to be removed?

Any way to reset the Disk Cleanup cache via Registry or something so that the Disk Cleanup is able to get updated with the latest information?

Disk cleanup in W8.1 is a little problematic... but I wouldn't worry. You have done all the correct things. I find clean up slow, extremely slow when doing a system files clean but on the other hand it does seem to know what its doing. I noticed discrepancies with what it finds and what it supposedly cleans. I've also found that a day or two later my free space might have jumped up by several hundred mb.

I think one valid reason is that some files although suitable for deletion, aren't, until a time period of "x" amount of days has passed and they are deemed not needed.

It's all you can do really. The first time you run it is the worst and there are many reports of it taking 60 to 90 minutes to complete which is ridiculous. Run it, accept what it does and then perhaps run it again a few days after each monthly update cycle. I'm sure its fine though.
