How often should you do an sfc scan?

I had to do a reset because I could not run an sfc scan and couldn't repair or replace corrupt files with a dism scan. After the reset I did an sfc scan to make sure my laptop was ok before I started re-installing software. I wanted to create another system image so I did another sfc and again had corrupt files that could not be repaired and got a successful restore doing a dism scan and did another sfc scan. How do you know when you have corrupt files apart from doing an sfc scan? I check that all my software is updated and find that Event Viewer and the Action Centre don't give any indication that there are corrupt files that need repairing or restoring. Should I do an sfc scan everytime I instal or re-instal stuff just to make sure?

    Hello Nougart,

Other than the system files not working or giving you an error, SFC is used to let you know if you have any corrupted or modified system files.

While it doesn't hurt anything to run SFC whenever you like, SFC is usually only used as needed when you suspect you may have corrupted or modified system files.

Like Brink says, doesn't hurt to run it as much as you want. I try to run it about once a week just to make sure nothing has somehow gotten corrupted. Especially after any Windows updates. I'm a bit obsessive though.

I don't think you are being a bit obsessive. After having to do a reset because of corrupt files I think I am now going to do an sfc scan more often especially after I instal or re-instal software and maybe after Windows updates too.

i usually run it once per week along with DISM check and DskChk - just before I back up my System. That way I feel more secure with that backup point.

I usually run sfc & dism & then sfc again & reboot.

I might do this once or several times a week.
    I worry about my computer.

Thanks for that - I am now going to do all the scans that you do on a weekly basis .

I think you are right to worry about your computer. I am going to do all the scans you mentioned on a weekly + basis and after every software installation . After I had to do a reset because of corrupt files it took a lot of time to re-instal all my software and then update it (because the last System Image I created also had corrupt files on it ).
