Windows 8.1, HPET,useplatformclock=yes sometimes come back

I've a stability issue (freeezing) with my Asus M5A97 R 2.0 and Windows 8.1 and I'm trying to figure out if it is related to the timing (my hunch)

My motherboard have the hpet option in the southbridge sub-menu and the default value it's ´enable´.
When I installed Windows 8.1 I got automatically useplatformclock yes value in the bcdedit /enum result.
When I start to play War Thunder game I had some issue and in their forum told me that could be related to the timer used by the system, and it was true. Disabling hpet in the bios and deleting useplatformclock value the problem with this game it was solved.

    Wintimertester return me odd result

bios hpet enabled & useplatformclock yes --> 14.1 Mhz.
bios hpet enabled & no useplatformclock value --> 4.1 Mhz.
bios hpet disabled & useplatformclock yes --> 3.57 Mhz (but sometimes 14.1 Mhz)
bios hpet disabled & no useplatformclock value --> 4.1 Mhz.

    the last one

bios hpet disabled & no useplatformclock value

it's the best setting for that game and seems better one for the stability (freezing)

the question is : why useplatformclock yes sometimes come back in the bcdedit /enum list without any manual configuration ?

    thank you

Hello, I have exactly the same issue as you described, for me HPET on Windows 8.1 gives me more problems and it fixes.

Whenever I disable it or delete the 'useplatformclock' value, it always comes back after rebooting.

I wonder if there's any solution to this, it's rather annoying to have to delete it every time then reboot to make it take effect, oddly enough it reverts back every time but the game I have an issue with seems to work fine... that is after I reboot and the cycle starts all over again.

Any possible fox for this annoyance anyone?

Notes: I have disabled HPET on BIOS
I delete the value with CMD with Admin rights, then after each rebooting it reverts back to normal.

Note that HPET gave me freeze issues also under Windows 7. Basically I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 to try to solve. with no result

After three weeks without problem I'm pretty sure about the HPET involvement. So far I'm using the hybernation to bypass it because the problem is during the operating system boot. Sometimes the bios seems to ignore the related disabled option into its configuration

Is there any chance to inform Microsoft about this? with Asus it's done.

recaping: the problem seems related to an Amd driver that force Hpet
