System Restore won't stay turned off

It's been several times that I disable system protection for my C drive (because it's an SSD) but it seems to be turning itself back on by itself. I'm not sure what's triggering it, really but there are a couple of google hits about this but with no final solution. System Restore in the D drive seems to stay turned off though.

    Please help. Thanks.

Try this although I don't know why you would want to do it.

Most likely triggered by updates or installations.
To turn it off completely you would need to disable System Restore in Group Policy:
Local Computer Policy►Computer Configuration►Administrative Templates►System►System Restore►'Turn off Configuration' or 'Turn off System Restore'; highlight each for more info and read the policy settings carefully.

Windows updates tend to return some items back to factory settings, very annoying. But it does not touch any third party stuff I have running.

That's exactly what I did. I just don't use system restore and I don't want it writing to my SSD.

    That's exactly what I did?

Yeah, I also read about turning it off in the local GPO but the thing is why did it not do this in Windows 7?

just a thought, can system restore be 'programmed' to store on a sep disk? I have a 2TB secondary disk and could use that?

You can use a secondary disk for system restore as long as you have it enabled on the primary drive. If it is disable on the primary, there wouldn't be an option to enable it on the secondary.
