Solved unable to upload files and problem with adw-cleaner

hello,
I have recently purchased a laptop with windows 8.1. After I had to delete some search engines - apart from yahoo and google, I find that I am now unable to upload email attachments in my yahoo webmail and unable to upload photos in facebook. I don't know whether the 2 things are connected, I just noticed the problem after I had done this action. When I try to attach/upload I get a page telling me skydrive is unavailable, not the folders from which to chose file. All I can then do is cancel.

And btw, I had tried to get rid of the adware using adw-cleaner which hp had recommended but it did not seem to complete the action and after re-start seems to have vanished. :(
Can anyone help with the first or both of these issues?
Many thanks!:D

PS I don't know enough to reconstruct what I did to delete the search engines, I don't think

Kind of a strange item isn't it... I am going to throw some different troubleshooting steps at you

1) Run Malwarebytes and doa full scan , delete what is needed

2) Run ccleaner by pinform - i would clean registry with it as well.

3) Reset your brwser settings/delete cache/history/cookies etc

4) If you use a browser besides internet explorer you may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling ( do this as the final step )

thanks for the quick reply; I am not entirely sure what you mean though.
1.) What is malwarebytes?
2.) what is ccleaner by pinform? - are you recommending products by their commercial names?
3.) I am not sure how to do this - will a search on the pc give me the answer?
Thanks!

Ah sorry, I wasn't aware of how techy you really were.

Let me restart:

1) Malwarebyes is an antimalware program. it will scan and show you any malware infections. I would suggest actually hanging on to the program as it is dead useful. Please be advised that I personally have the PRO version of the software which there again I would actually suggest to anybody who was looking for a similar product. However, for now the free edition will be fine. Install the program and start scanning. You can go to this link to download:

https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

If it asks if you wish to start your trial for Malwarebytes PRO just uncheck that.

2) Ccleaner is a tool used to help the performance of your computer and just clean up the system a tad internally. I would probably download, install, and use the program and then uninstall.

Below is the link:

CCleaner - Download

The free version is all you need for this task and you shouldn't have to accept any other products/offers/start any trials.

3) If you go to www.google. com and type in "how to reset internet explorer" "how to reset firefox settings" "how to reset google chrome settings" "how to delete cookies in google chrome" etc you will find some great resources and it would be great practice for you to do this on your own I believe :)

many thanks - I will try all that; however, given that it appears I got rid of the adware by uninstalling, would it not make sense to start with step2, IF that is designed to get me back to being able to upload files?
Thanks again!

adwcleaner is good, however, I would still suggest a scan with Malwarebytes just to be safe. It's more of a preference. adwcleaner if I remember correctly cleans browser infections however you have no way of knowing what type of infection passed to the actual system.

ok -
have done all that; google chrome settings are fine
have ignored internet explorer and can't find firefox.
Now, back to trying to attach a file to my email in yahoo - same problem as before
instead of an overview of folders I get the black screen with skydrive at the top and a couple of folders to select, go up does not work and - top right it says sky drive not available
only option is cancel

what now???

aha! I have worked it out - checked pc settings and found for some reason skdrive was still active as place for files to be stored although I had otherwise deleted/unselected it (from start) - so I just turned that off and - bingo.
Does not give me a little satisfaction after you know what. Anyway thanks for trying, this forum is certainly great.
Thnks

Ah so it was directly skydrive related gotcha. I don't know why I had it set in my mind as a browser thing. Guess I am not used to the whole skydrive integration wthing wth Windows 8 yet myself.

Good to hear this is resolved for you.
