sfc scan and dism still doesn't work

Hi there

This is the first time I'm posting on the forum. I've searched the forums and can't seem to find a solution. It first started when I installed a malicious app. I received like 10 "dwm.exe is not responding" popups every few minutes. This lasted a day, after which it stopped. I ran the sfc /scannow and Dism commands plenty of times but the sfc stops at 48% and the Dism stops at 20%. I decided to format (reset) windows which hasn't changed anything.

Both scans, despite the format, are still the same. No repairs to corrupt files has been achieved. Its really bothering me because I do a lot of concept art/ illustration work which is quite deadline driven. If I experience a crash, I will lose business, hence I can't take on new clients until this problem is resolved. The sfcdetails.text file cannot be generated either.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Dism usually hangs at 20% for a very long time & suddenly jumps to a higher number.

How long did you let it run ?

:ditto:

Both take some patience. Can take awhile.

I usually run sfc, then dism, then sfc again.

sfc fixes problems.

dism fixes the component store sfc uses to fix things.

If sfc can't fix something, then I run dism & then sfc again.

Thanks for the fast response, guys.

The dism runs and hangs at 20% like you said, david. It jumps to 100% with the error code: 0x8024402c and states: "DISM failed. No operation was performed. It stated this before and after the format. I did both scans numerous times with a restart between each.

The only thing I know to suggest is to reinstall your OS. :(

Based on the links below this could be a problem with the windows update service. You may like to try this before installing again.

net stop wuauserv
cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
ren Download Download.old
net start wuauserv
net stop bits
net start bits
net stop cryptsvc
cd %systemroot%\system32
ren catroot2 catroot2old
net start cryptsvc
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If that works run the sfc /scannow again to fix the corruption. If not please attach the dsim.log file

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restore health failed - Microsoft Community

Ah! Damn. I've done a reset already. I did it yesterday. The sfc and dism scans are still the same. :(

Adam has good advice.

By "reset" do you mean you just refreshed it or did you return it to factory settings ?
In my previous post returning to factory settings was what I meant.

Thanks, Adam... I will definitely try this and send the dism log your way.

@David

Yes I did a full reset to factory settings. Prior to that, I did the refresh and it didn't solve any problems.

I will give adam's recommendation a try and post the results.

Thanks again for all the help, really appreciate it.

Hi there, I'll give it a stab but I'm not an expert on analysing these things.

I guess we need to look into the cbs.log

The only thing I could find for CDISMPackageManager::Internal_Finalize(hr:0x8024402c) was this from answers.microsoft.com which (when translated from hollandish) rather unhelpfully said:

I am afraid that there are only two possibilities remain to solve the problems, namely a renewal, or a factory recovery (total reinstallation).
