Hello, my HP Pavilion g7 running Win 8.1 has been running sluggish. When surfing the net with Chrome I occasionally get a 'Not Responding' message in the title bar. Antivirus scans are clean as are Malware scans. Any tips in getting it peppy again?

You have to provide more specifics, because the problem could be any number of things; but the first place I would look is the startup tab in task manager (rt. click taskbar > choose task manager > startup tab).

How many programs are running in the background?

Thanks for the MS article. I performed the steps and determined that I still have the problem, hence it's not caused by a software conflict, and the tutorial was not be able to help. What at times is 'not responding' is Chrome. ZoneAlarm and Synaptics TouchPad Enhancements is what is enabled in Startup. Everything else is disabled.

Have you tried disabling ZoneAlarm? Given that Chrome is the app 'not responding', there's a very good chance that this is your culprit.

How does it perform if you use IE or Firefox instead of Chrome?

I'll try another browser like IE for a bit and compare. @ lastof, are you saying that ZoneAlarm may be the culprit, given that Chrome is the app 'not responding'? What dependency would there be?

Given that ZoneAlarm is a firewall/antivirus product, it certainly could have a lot to do with it. Try disabling it and see.

It was HP Media Edition Video and HP support that kept hanging in the background
