Is it normal for Windows 8.1 to be altering services?

Hi,

The other day I was looking into the services of my computer cause typically certain services run at certain types and I'm used to it being like that, however I noticed a service that usually ran wasn't running.

Checked in the services list. The Background Intelligent Transfer Service was set to Manual... check online and apparently the default is Automatic (Delayed Start). So hmm... set it back to default of Automatic (Delayed Start), wondering why it was like that way.

Look through the Event Logs. A few entries of BITS constantly being switched to auto start and demand start interchangably by SYSTEM. Going back to the 10th of July. I'm confused.

This morning after I had set it to this, Windows Update service isn't stopping itself after a period of time after boot like it usually does. I'm... confused by this. Why is it still running? Check Services. Apparently this entire time it had been set to... Automatic (Trigger Start). I'm... surprised by this, confused and not understanding. Look up the default, set it back to its default of Manual (Trigger Start). Hopefully that fixes that.

But it's kinda weird and odd that my computer was like this. I guess some services didn't get altered properly from the shift from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1? Cause I upgraded via the store. By the way I'm running the Pro version.

I guess something just messed up. /shrugs
I know I had to reinstall my AV because despite installing the patch that let it work with 8.1 I still had to reinstall it and Windows Defender kept whining and activating despite my AV should have disabled it.

I guess it's just some weirdness involved via upgrades.
I set BITS to Automatic but there seems to be nothing wrong now.
Should I keep Windows Update as Automatic (Trigger Start) or as Manual (Trigger Start) if I have my Windows Update set to automatically download and install updates during the Automatic Maintenance?

If you want Automatic updates than it would be logical to leave it's service on Auto too. I have set my Windows Update to "Notify but let me choose..." and it's service to Automatic (Delayed start, Trigger start) and all works well as it starts up only after desktop is in completely usable state and after it shuts down without using any memory. If an update shows up (I get notification) I can choose which one to install after reviewing what updates are supposed to do.

That's a relief. Was kinda weird that it kept changing the start-up type on the process. But yeah, I put it back to Automatic (Trigger Start). Tis good.
