Ehhhh...I have an AGP build with DDR memory and I can play 90% of the latest games smoothly @ 1680x1050, lots of them set to full video settings. I'm playing MLB 2k12 a lot now. Framerates are always 30-40 and almost never drop below that, on maxed settings.
    Howdy Gman,
I appreciate you response and I can tell you it is worlds better than the old Celeron that was in the box! Thanks

    Hello whs,
That is what I wanted and thanks for the honest evaluation. Take care

All you'd have to do is make sure your power supply can handle it, but odds are great that it easily can. The card is not a power hog by any stretch. It doesn't even need any internal power connections from the psu.
    Howdy again,
As this was thrown together for about $75 and it is my backup, I really don't want to spend the money on it. Basically I just hated to waste the Athlon X2 I took out of my main box. I need a second hardrive, I can't do backups and hate to reinstall {:-))!

    whs,
I honestly don't know what the rating is of the power supply I yanked out of the old Acer. I thought I need a larger one, but it is holding up whatever the wattage, finger's crossed!!

My question is should I be experiencing better performance than indicated in the snippet posted below. I have an pata DVD, and a 160 GB Seagate SATA drive with onboard graphics. I understand why the graphics pulls the overall score down, but do the other components affect the processor scores or the memory score. Basically is this thing in your learned opinions running as good as it should? Thanks always for your assistance!
My first post on this forum. Busted back to buck private, not for the first time.

I'd guess your scores are normal.

Here is what I get with the current generation of onboard graphics on an Intel i5-2500 processor.

Better than yours, but still not very high. But plenty good enough if not gaming.
Thanks for your response. That is better than my main machine with a Phenom-II X4. Glad to know that it a viable if not top rate build out of spare parts.

Glenn, changing a PSU is no rocket science. Just a bit confusing with all the wires. And for appr. $60 you get a top Antec 500W PSU.

    Howdy whs,
It is not the installation. I bought the used motherboard and memory to fit in my old my old acer. It was too big, luckily I had an old fullsize case from the previous system. The power supply in it was so old it didn't have a CPU power plug. So I gutted the acer and put it in the older box. It is the money question. Luckily there was and ide header for the PATA DVD. This is just for emergency backup and compulsive geekery. I didn't use the seperate graphics card from the Acer, wonder if it might give me a better score. But the acer predated the motherboard by a number of years. Well we can but try and repair what I mess up. Thanks sir! I might have a line on a cheap used hard drive, I really need one to do the backups.

Understand. It is always difficult to make older recovered bits work together. But if money is an issue, then you may not have many other options.

Cheap HDDs are hard to come by these days. Since the flood in Thailand they keep the prices up. I assume they are back in full production in Thailand, but the resellers continue to benefit from the saga.

    Howdy whs,
That is a shame. I have the old 168 GB running as my main. The gentleman I bought the board off of, does building and repair of machines. Maybe he has a working sata drive available at a good price. This is mostly for fun and to have a backup machine just in case. But shoot, at the end of W8 subscription I am going to have to turn it back into an Ubuntu or some linux freeware flavor. Ah well.
Having fun yet! Thanks for your time and help buddy!

Glenn, I am now experimenting with Windows 8 on a USB stick. For my first attempt I used a stick that was too slow - but it works, although you need to be patient. I now ordered a fast stick. When that comes in, I shall see whether that is a viable alternative.

On my main desktop I run Ubuntu and Windows 8 in Virtual Box. That is the ultimate. Beats double booting (which was a pain) hands down.
