System Image Problem Win 8.1 64b

I tried creating a System Image and it keeps failing. Is there any good free software I can use to do it? Thoughts appreciated

Thanks for the info guys. Once imaging is done, how do I go about restoring if need be? Can I restore through the Macrium or AOEMI free Programs?

I just finished creating a System Image, but am confused about how to restore it if need be. I created a Macrium Recover Flash Drive, and also another Flash drive with Windows 8.1 Recovery options. Lets say there is nothing on my computer, how would I restore from Flash drives? Can computer boot with 2 Flash drives at same time?: Start with Windows 8 recovery options, then boot the Macrium Recover drive and from there restore from portable USB HDD where I have the System Image? Confused about this and thoughts appreciated

Both Macrium and Windows 8/8.1 Recovery are built with WinPE. Macrium has their Backup/Restore application running to allow you to Backup/Restore the system image created by their software while Windows 8/8.1 Recovery serves different functions such as troubleshoot, startup repair, command prompt etc... in case your Windows fails to boot.

To restore the system image, you need to plug in the Macrium Recovery USB, power up your Laptop and keep tapping the key for Boot Menu, this key such as <ESC>, F2, F10, F12 ... is specific to different manufacturers, You need to find out what key to use from the user manual to display the boot menu then select to boot from the USB. Once booted, Macrium will run their application and give you the choice to backup/restore etc... You then need to maneuver to where you stored the system image then click on restore, follow the screen to select the destination disk to restore to. Be careful not to restore to the wrong disk !!!

My System Image is on my portable USB HDD and has 3 drives, 1 SSD and 2 HDD's... I have to select which disk to restore to? How do I restore all of my disks? Lets say everything went bad and need to restore, how would I do that if there is no OS or anything?

Macrium Recovery is itself a small Windows PE (Windows Preinstallation Environment) OPERATING SYSTEM developed by Microsoft.
