I always noticed that while windows 8.1 boots maybe faster than win7 in about a second (cant tell the difference without tests), the disk performance is lower than in windows 7, and it actually runs slower (can tell the difference without tests). Running slower by that much isnt normal. These are other threads on the internet about the issue to prove that i'm not alone : Windows 8.1 File System Performance Down Compared to Windows 7
Windows 8.1 slowed SSD performance
Do you notice that ? Maybe anyone found a hack or something to fix it ? While the difference is not very huge and simple users cant tell it, as it guy i'm really concerned about this issue, as thing like this is what i care about, not some invisible start button "issues" or other microsoft madness.

I haven't noticed any drop in speed in my G75VW with Lite on 256GB SSD speeds are the same Win 7 home or win 8.11 pro mc.
Do you have the latest Chipset drivers, IRST, and IME driver installed?
Is Trim working? Are you near capacity? Have you overprovisioned?

Win 8 boot, faster due to hybrid shut down basically sleeping not really shut down. Unless you intentionally shut it down completely on purpose. Then boot times are similar. Mine boots from Cold shut down to Putting in my password in 10 Sec with 7 or 8 and another 20 seconds to load all the crap I'm running in the back ground to full mouse desktop control.

Everything is working and all drivers are newest. It actually really hard to notice speed difference without benchmarks, its possible to see, that in windows 8 time needed to delete a bunch of files is a little bigger than time needed to delete same files in windows 7. In my provided other threads to this problem, that other people have too, you can clearly see the difference in benchmarks pictures.

Windows 8 has improved Superfetch and Windows Search (indexing), that might impact HDD's performance in a negative way, you could try to disable each of them separately and compare the results.
