    Some observation. AFAIR :
CPU usage while playing Avatar in 3D mode in PowerDVD 14 on windows 7 used to hover at around 60/70%
Since I am on windows 8.1 pro now and on the same PC the CPU usage playing the same movie in 3D mode in the same player is down to 25%! This is really good about windows 8.1. This is a big statement so as of now I only have the screen shot of task manager of windows 8.1. I will install 7 again and test this sometime later.
    What do you guys think?

Yep, another good thing about Win8/8.1. although I would attribute that to better memory management, less disk/media reading, less CPU usage plus a bit better spread of individual core loading. Direct Play in DirectX 11 could be a factor too. Keep Speedfan running while playing the movie and you will be able to see in real time how individual cores are used. If all cores are used equally or close to each other than OS and program are more efficient.

Speed fan reports almost equal usage of two cores while playing the movie. Yes it is good. 8.1 is not just a fancier looking OS but much superior from the "inside" too
