File History status on 1st time save

I'm running File History for the 1st to backup files to an external drive. How do I know that it has finished?

More details follow. On the file history window, I see the message:

File History is saving copies of your files for the first time.

Yet there is no status telling me how this progressing. I might expect to see a screen showing the % of files saved, or something similar, but I don't. So how do I know that this process has finished?

This question got lost in another thread & wasn't answered, so I'm asking it again.

File history works in the background, you will not see a progress screen. The first time you run it, it takes a long time to complete afterwards it is incremental. If any problems, you will see it in the maintenance section of Action Center. File History in the services tab of the Task Manager should show running

Thanks for the explanation. Although I can understand that this is a background process & therefore doesn't give a status, this is very user unfriendly. Telling a PC novice to keep checking Task Manager isn't a good way of doing things.
I did use another method & that is to check the properties of FileHistory because it lists the size, number of that files & folders it contains & because I knew the size of the libraries I was backing up, I had a rough idea of progress. But this is also very user unfriendly & I wouldn't try to explain this to my PC novice friends. I would instantly be labelled as *geek*. End of conversation!
