Disk runs at 100% hangs and freezes windows 8.1

Ever since i got my pc it has had this issue. I thought updates would fix it because the last pc i bought had the same problem. When it freezes i can move the mouse but everything else is unresponsive for a while. It often freezes after the pc has started up or when im browsing, often at random times when i just have paint open and nothing else. All my drivers are up to date. i run ccleaner everyday. I use MalwareBytes. i tried disabling my cloud, changing my power settings and reinstalling everything, nothing seems to work. ive had this pc for about 6 months and updates havent been able to fix the problem. Even before i got malwarebytes and avast the problem has been there. System often makes disk go to 100%, a lot of times it says its service host too. I feel as though i have tried everything. I'm frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell from the Task Manager which process is running high?

    Try disabling these two services:

Windows Key + R > type services.msc > find the Windows Search service, dbl-click it and disable > find Superfetch service, dbl-click and disable.

Is the problem rectified? If not, go back into your services console and re-enable (set startup to automatic) both. As Nuccii suggested, go into Task Manager (rt.click the taskbar in Desktop mode) and watch the Processes tab to see exactly which process is eating up your resources.

ussually when its at 100% the ones coming up that are high sometimes all at once, but ussually one at a time are labeled as system which comes up as ntoskrnl when i hit propertys, service host:local system (network restricted) (10), also 11,12 and 7 which comes up as svchost when i go to propertys. sometimes nvida does the same thing. chrome too, so i deleted chrome

Are you able to scroll down to see what other processes may be running high? Might also help to use resource monitor.

    Hi FuzzyRedFox,

Go alongwith what Nuccii suggests - I don't want to stop it , but alongside check whether Network Discovery (svchost.exe of Windows uPnp (universal plug-and-play) service) is causing the problem.

Refer to the screenshot below, "Turn off network discovery" > "Save changes"

If it does not resolve the problem, go back and enable it as before.

ive already tried turning off network discovery it did not seem to help. im not sure what the resource monitor is either. i found something new today though. automatic maintenance is suppost to start when im not using it. im not sure if it was doing this before too, but it keeps starting automatic maintenance when im using it, which is freezing it up. is there a way to disable it? im hoping its the only thing causing the freezing

Turn on or turn off automatic maintenance

Automatic Maintenance - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

I don't believe this is thee source of your problem though.
