Starting and configuring Windows Backup

Hi

I have Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise 64-bit.

How do I start and configure Windows Backup?

Thanks

Bye

Hello there,

If you don't already know; a lot of the backup functionality that was in Windows 7, has changed in Windows 8/.1

Are you looking for automatic file/folder backups? If so, search ''file history'' in your start menu, and you'll be able to select a drive that Windows will backup the standard ''libraries'' to, ie, My Documents, My Pictures, etc

If you're looking for automatic image backups, then Windows 8.1 does not have this, and you willl need to manually create an image backup anytime you need too. So, search for ''file history'' again, then look to the bottom left corner and select ''System Image Backup''

This is the scope of ''Windows Backup'' within 8.1 essentially, not taking into account Windows Refresh and Restore>

If you need clarification with anything, please ask!

Don't forget to make your recovery drive, which will help you somewhat, should Windows fail to start/boot.

Search ''Create a Recovery Drive'' in your start menu, and select ''Create a Recovery Drive'' then follow the prompts. If you have a recovery partition, you can choose to copy this to the USB flash drive(which is what the recovery drive will be burnt too)

There are other advanced methods, so if this isn't enough, I will point you to where you need to look.

I noticed that, in the "Change Action Center settings" window, the "Windows Backup" option is disabled. How come? How do I enable it?

Thanks

Bye

That's a good question. For me, that box is simply checked by default, but greyed out and inaccessible.

Maybe another user can provide an explanation as to why this feature is present in that screen, alongside the separate option for File history. I can assure you though, that ''Windows Backup'' is File History now within 8/.1.

Sorry I couldn't offer more clarity on that! :)
