Windows 8.1 - Changing Fonts by Modifying UITHEME.DLL

    Hey guys,

Has anyone heard of changing fonts by modifying the UITHEME.DLL temporarily using ResourceEditor.exe? Attempting to figure out a way to modify 8.1 fonts by utilizing registry tweaks, I happened to stumble upon this modification. I am sure it has been figured out by others and I do not want to go through a complete "tutorial" of what I did unless it would be helpful, so please reply and let me know. I was able to make the modification, lost "aero" temporarily, edited the font titles via registry by changing the HEX entries, restart, fonts changed (along with colors), and then removed the tweak to the .dll, aero back.

Let me know, like I mentioned, I'm sure someone else has already posted a tutorial but I wanted to check anyway. Btw: did a search and didn't see anything but I am not the most thorough searcher.... lol.

    Hi there,

Yes that would be very useful. I've been searching for ages. Up until now I've been using an applet called windows 8 font changer which changes most of the fonts in explorer, but does not alter the embedded metro UI fonts on the start screen nor the taskbar / clock font. Changing the SegoeUI font values to nil in reg edit makes windows utilise the nearest substitute, but it doesn't let you specify a custom substitute which is hugely annoying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestion! I did indeed purchase windows blinds a few weeks ago to do this, but here's the kicker: My new machine (Dell Precision m3800) has a frustrating HiDPI 3200 x 1800 display, so all the themes I download include assets which are far too small and scale terribly. I also only really want to modify the typeface and nothing more, and as far as I can tell no one has produced a replica Windows 8.1 aero skin (apparently you can't modify default Windows theme packs using SkinStudio) and I don't have the skill or patience to make one of my own from scratch.

    Back to the drawing board...

    Sorry for the bump,

MDEDWARD care to share your secrets? I've also since read that you can basically create your desired theme in Win7 (which is apparently much easier) and copy over the .theme file to your Windows 8 computer for anyone scouring the internet like I am.
