Windows 8.1 freeze with buzzing sound

    Hello!
    I have an Acer Aspire 5750G laptop (Intel i5-2410M, 4GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GT540M 1GB, 640GB HDD) with Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on it.
Sometimes (well, recently alot of times) it freezes completely with a sound buzz (if there was any sound playing at the moment).
It happened while browsing the internet, watching movies, playing games, and even while just idleing on the desktop.
It's really annoying since I can't rely on my laptop now
The Windows 8.1 license is from my university, so it's genuine.
Every driver is up to date, I haven't installed any software in plus, just the usual stuff (web browser, vlc media player etc.)After each and every freeze I have to manually restart the computer. After I do this, I always check in the Event Viewer if there are any warnings or errors, but nothing (only stuff happening after the reboot).
I can't reproduce the error when I want it to, it just happens randomly, thus making the system unreliable.
I had this same exact problem with Windows 8 Pro N on the same laptop. Then I went back to Windows 7 Pro, which runs perfectly fine.
I really don't want to go back to Windows 7 once again, so I would love some actually working fixes for this...
If you need any more information, maybe some logs, I will gladly upload them to you!
    Thanks for reading.

This may be caused by the CPU overheating. Cleaning the cooler may help and changing the thermal grease.

    I just did that.
I changed the thermal paste (AS5) and cleaned the fan.
    It still happens...
It has to be a software problem, since I didn't get the same error on Windows 7

What is the driver version of your NVDIA 540M card and did you acquire it from the NVDIA site. The latest version would probably be 337.88
Were all the other drivers downloaded from the manufacturers site, not Acer. Are Windows updates up to date including the optional ones.

    I have exactly same problem. I also have Acer ASpire 5750G (Intel i5-2410M, 8GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GT520M 1GB, 750GB HDD) .
    It
completely with a sound buzz, and I have to manualy restart it also.
I have tried to update graphic driver, that didn't help. I've installed every windows update recomended, and optinal, but the problem still occurs. It is happening while I'm watching movie, browsing, listening to music. But oddly it never happend while gaming.
Can you guys help me, thanks.

Maybe updating your BIOS to the latest version can solve your problem.

Just had the same problem with my Desktop, Win 8.1 64 bit all current updates applied.
Troubleshot it back to Automatic maintenance.
First thought like many posters was over heating so changed the thermal paste between the i7 3770 and the Arctic 13 cooler , didn't need it. Ran all system fans at max, no joy. Bought up task manager and waited. Turns out it was when the second HDD started being maintained, CPU use hit 100% along with HDD use and bang or rather buzz.
Frustrating and a lesson learnt, turn off Automatic Maintainence1
