Dual Boot (XP and 8.1) system but CPU usage too high

It's been a long time but I finally managed to install a new hard drive (and SSD) and install Windows 8.1 alongside my other hard drive with Windows XP. I had to use Easy Boot BCD to help sort out the dual boot and now it starts lovely.

However I have noticed that the CPU fan has been working super hard lately and at first I thought the sounds were hard disk related but after opening it up I can feel intense heat in the enclosure (measured around 47.9 degrees centigrade on the fan surface with a laser thermometer) and my cpu usage is pretty high a lot of the time.

This has only happened now I have a dual boot. Can anyone help as to why this is happening and what I can do? Should I be worried? When the CPU usage hits 100% windows XP freezes and otherwise is a bit laggy sometimes.
