Automatic Scheduled Maintenance is not running

I have Automatic Scheduled Maintenance set to run at 3:00AM. I get to this setting by going to Control Panel > Action Center > Maintenance > Change maintenance settings. I also have the box for "Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer" checked.

However, I note that if I put my computer to sleep for a few days, when I wake it back up, Automatic Scheduled Maintenance has NOT run. I can tell this because my antivirus definitions are out-of-date and haven't been updated since I put the computer to sleep.

Anybody have any ideas how to figure why it's not waking up for Scheduled Maintenance? Is it possibly a BIOS setting? Do I have to manually add it to Task Scheduler?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Update 1, ASRock Z87E-ITX mobo, Intel i7-4770S CPU, Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD, 16GB RAM.

Does your BIOS have options for power saving? I believe if the S5 state is set to "Maximum Power Saving" it will not allow any wake up timers to wake up the computer.

I'll take a look, but off the top of my head, I do not think my BIOS has that option.

It does have Intel SmartConnect, which apparently allows a computer to get email while it is asleep. I have SmartConnect disabled.

    av update

also depends on which AV your running, if its MS then you also need to have WU set as well.
If its a third party then thats outside of Regular maintainances operation.
I think in the latter case you'll have to set up a specific task.

It's Windows Defender. It normally updates as part of Windows Update. I was under the impression that Windows Update should run during part of Automatic Scheduled Maintenance, which should thereby theoretically update the Windows Defender definitions.

Is that incorrect? I guess I could have been more accurate in my original post. I know that my computer is not waking up for Automatic Scheduled Maintenance because Windows Update has not run the entire time the computer has been asleep.
