I tried system files removal with no luck. I then tried Brinks elevated prompt method and it tells me it cannot find it. i see a folder with contents labeled Windows.old right after C:
I have used admin and rebooted each time.
I was considering right clicking and removing the folder but the files would remain I think.
Or wait the 28 days for Windows to purge it.
However, I am trying to create an image and would like a clean one.

Is there something i am doing wrong?

If you are unable to remove it using Disk Cleanup, run this from the elevated command prompt rmdir /S /Q C:\Windows.old\

I do not know if it is because I removed the external drive, ran one elevated prompt or what but after about 6 tries it is gone.
I thank you for your command and have pasted it in my folder.
May I ask if the attachment looks right with Windows not Windows.old there now. I never stopped to notice what should be there after .old was gone.
Thank you
Peter

You have a folder "My Backups" on your C:\ drive. It would be better elsewhere probably in case of disk failure.

You can probably delete MATS folder - Safe to delete MATS folder after running FixIt - Microsoft Community

and delete the FRST folder Suspect rootkit, MSE uninstalled, network issues - Page 2 - Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs

and the performance logs (unless you are interested in them).

Not sure about the others.

Windows only needs MSOCache (hidden, only if you have Office), Program Files, Program Files (x86) (if you are 64 bit), Program Data (hidden), Users and Windows.

The first was my desktop -in error.

The first was my desktop -in error + the second was the pc in question about the Windows.old.

The first has nothing in My Backups as I back up to external drives so I guess I can leave it?

FRST was a tool used recently so I will remove it.

There is nothing in the Perf logs so I guess I can leave it.

Do you think I can remove these from the images I just made or should I remove and then make new images?

Well you can delete PerfLogs if you want - it will be recreated if it is needed by reliability and performance monitor.

What is in your Boot folder? It is not standard part of Windows...

Assuming the folders you deleted are not big (two are empty anyway) I wouldn't bother remaking the images. It really doesn't matter if they are there - just looks tidier without :)

You mean the boot order in the BIOS? If you want to boot from DVD you need it at the top of the list (likewise if you are trying to boot from USB). Sorry if I'm misunderstanding what you are saying...

I thought you were asking how my boot order displayed when I tapped F12. When I need macrium for example, I tap F12 and when the selection appears, I use the arrow to select the cd/dvd it is set to. If I ever get into a UEFI I hope it has legacy because it is more secure I guess but hard for the average person.

Ah, no. In your picture in post #6 you have a folder called Boot - I was wondering what was in it as it is not standard. Perhaps you can delete it.

Nothing to do with boot order - sorry for the confusion.

I have that Boot folder too, it's full of language MUIs + memtest and BSD backups. It's a hidden folder normally.

Boot on desktop

I found boot on my desktop which too has Macrium.
I will not remove them but they seem to be for different things. or at least in different places.
I enabled show hidden folders here but have not done so with the laptop.

I know I am confusing you with which pc is which pc and I can demonstrate if you wish.

Btw, if you have any suggestions to correct errors I would appreciate having them pointed out.

Even if I do not move a folder, how do you do it, copy and paste?

Lots of ways to copy files and folders. Easiest, open 2 instances of explorer and just drag them from one place to other.
