Solved win 8.1 ssd indexing and general optimisation question

hey guys, thx to this forum im able to reinstall my win 8.1 on my laptop smoothly :)

now i have a couple question regarding optimisation of ssd.

1. is turning off indexing really necessary? the global search on start wont be able to find control panel settings if i disable search index for system(C) (the ssd drive). its only search on the drive D which is my data drive. is there a workaround for this?

2. i dont really want to turn off system restore , because it helped me before. can i place restore files for the system drive anywhere else? maybe on data D ?

3. what do you guys think abut hibernation? should i disable it?

these are my question regarding using ssd, more to come.

Why are you thinking of disabling these two features? Are you following a tutorial that tells you to do this? If so, can you provide a link to it?

It's not necessary. However, I always turn it off and disable Windows Search service as part of optimization and using a light weight search engine such as: Everything Search Engine. It is a lot faster than Windows Search. Over time, the Windows search keep indexing its database in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Windows.edb. this Windows.edb can keep growing up to many GB's and slow down your system.

Here's another one I don't care about and again it's part of optimization, System Restore does take system resource and disk space. But in place of that, I always keep at least a couple of backups (Original and current working Windows). If anything ever goes wrong such as: cannot boot, virus, malwares, incompatible drivers etc... it only takes me about 10 minutes to get back online and this is another good practice to only have C: drive containing Windows, things like Email, Data, Pictures, Music, Videos are on other drives.

ok i understand , ill just let the indexing disabled , at least for my system drive.

and creating a windows system image is a better idea than making system restore point over and over again.
which program do you use for the windows backup?
