I have an HP laptop Pavilion g7 windows 8 Pro , that I have created restore points when I install things from time to time. But when I was shutting down the laptop, it must have ran into a problem, it wouldn't shut down, after installing a driver in optional updates from Ms,Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2 - AMD Radeon HD 7520G

Installation date: ‎5/‎12/‎2014 12:26 AM

Installation status: Succeeded

Update type: Optional

I had to power it off. When I restarted I noticed some of my programs weren't starting properly. Well I looked for a restore point an only found one. Before I had at least 6 or 8. My question is where have they gone. Is there a place where windows stores them, and is there a way to recover them?

I did not have any option for any more restore points. I did allocate more space for storage of restore points.

If you have updated your system, the restore points are gone. Some 3rd party defrag utilities such as Diskeeper have been known to do this also. The life span of a system restore point is usually 90 days, whether it would delete all but the last one I don't know.

You may try to disable and re-enable the automatic restore point as per the following tutorial, the files may have been corrupted. Create a couple of restore points and see that they don't disappear.

You stated that you were having problems with some programs. Are you still having problems and is your system still running OK.

Thanks Nuccii
I think you just answered why they were deleted. I did run a defrag with defraggler instead of windows system tools. I have also read the links you provided. Thanks very much for your help. And yes the restore did work, and the system seems to be fine now. And thanks to the Forum it provides a place for every one to seek out answers for so many problems.
