Restored Windows Image

The hard drive failed in our Dell desktop that I had upgraded to Win 8. I had done a clean install, and it had the Windows Reserved Partition of 350 MB. I had made a Windows Image to an external hard drive, so after I put a new hard drive in to replaced the failed drive, I restored that image. I was surprised to see that after the restoration, the Windows Reserved Partition is not there.

I think that when you make the image you need to tell it to image the WRP, and I guess I could have forgotten. But then why would it even be able to boot now?

Any ideas?

Thanks

That's just it, you made backup only of system partition, not the whole disk backup.

If the Windows installation was dependent on a System Reserved Partition which is now not present, why is it able to boot at all now?

Well, it is not, I don't have one either and everything works, dual boot with Win7 on other HDD also.

Except without it you can't boot into recovery and bitlocker will not work (I think).

Except I don't need recovery (Macrium Reflect is mama for that) and for locking stuff there's better way too. For a laptop I can see a reason for recovery partition but for home made desktop no.

A System Image Backup will include all critical partitions. Had you been booting through the System Reserved partition, it should have been included and restored. Perhaps you were actually booting from the OS partition...or maybe even another hard drive...
