Full Backup?

I wanted to backup my computer for the first time and used an ext usb hard drive that just showed no partions just all space available with an assigned drive letter. I used Acronis 2014 and did a FULL backup of the entire source drive. Looked like all went well but then I went to disk management and could see my normal Win 8.1 source drive has 4 partions...ok but then I looked at the drive I just used for the full backup and it was still just one big partion.
Yes it shows almost fully used but I thought it would have partions to mirror the source drive? Is this backup ok, maybe I am thinking about what a cloned drive would look like?
Please advise as I dont want to count on a backup that is not correct......
thanks
Tom

As long as all the partitions of the source drive are checked, The back up would be OK and you would be able to recover in the event of a problem. Be sure to create bootable media in order to recover.

Cloning is useful if transferring to a new hard drive and make that one bootable instead. See the cloning summary in the Acronis help section.
