I desperately serious problem - 100% disk usage new lenove laptop windows 8.1 64 bit


its something likr that(i found this in google) :

(not allways on 100% ...)
And that part of it has been tried:
1-new drivers
2- install windows again
3- clean boot
4- live tile off
5-windows search service (disable upon startup via 1.Run 2.type msconfig, 3.uncheck it in services tab)
6- remove anti virus
7-7-The virtual memory is set to 4000mb initial size and 8000mb maximum size

please if someone can helpp

This Resource Monitor screen shows a scale of 100 MB/sec and a Queue Length of 0.5 and a total of 16,703,913 B/sec. These numbers are greater than yours by a factor of 50.

The sliding (variable) scales make it look like the rates are at 100%.

Yes, I'm sure your first .jpg is OK (try .png for windows screen snapshots, the pictures are cleaner as .png is lossless). Your second .jpg starts to indicate a problem. The link below discusses Disk Queue length.

The second screen has 5,689,623 total B/s, mine is 16,703,913 B/s, so your throughput is probably limited by your disk queue length. The disk queue length scale is 5 and mine is 0.05. This number is a slight problem. Average Disk Queue Length is a better indicator than Disk Queue length.

Taking into account that utorrent.exe is one of your executables, which is commonly used for a prohibited to discuss activity. The only ways to lower this disk queue length is defragment your drive, defragment your paging file, buy a second drive to put your downloads on (this should free up your system drive disk queue length), buy drives to add RAID to your system, or get a solid state drive. See the aforementioned link for why it speeds up your system.

Do Not Manually Set Virtual Memory

Yes, if your system ran better before you executed those steps. The steps following steps should not have been done.
6. UN-check "
Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box
7. Select your windows drive (where OS is installed)
8. Click on Custom size radio button
9. Set Initial size equivalent to your RAM size in MB
10. Set Maximum size to twice of your RAM size in MB


In particular steps for 9. and 10., RAM SIZE depend on the size of programs running, and not on the size of RAM. Did you set these sizes to 4000 and 8000? Is the automatic size of virtual memory known? Using a number slightly different than automatic size and observing the effects is better than changing the size based on the amount of RAM.

Checking "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box. Should return your computer to the previous state.

Re Steps 9 and 10: to save your HDD from killing itself and slowing the performance of the OS, Step 10 should be set the same size as Step 9, eg Step 9 is set to 5000mb then Step 10 should be set to 5000mb also, setting these at the same size simply stops windows increasing and decreasing the pagefile at its will, hence reducing HDD activity and slowing performance.

With the pagefile, I have always set mine to 5000mb ( Win 7 ) for Steps 9 and 10 above. Now with W8 I have this set to 10000mb for Steps 9 and 10 each, even though I have 12gig ram, this 10000mb is plenty for W8.1 Pro to operate.

Re defragmentation of your pagefile: this can not be done. Defragmenting an SSD is NOT recommended as this reduces the life of the SSD due to their limited read/write lifespan, unlike SATA and IDE drives

Also invest in a faster drive eg don't buy a 5600rpm drive when you can go for a 7200rpm drive.

SSD drives should be for bootup OS partitions C: drives only. Data and Documents should be placed on an entirely secondary HDD which doe snot have to be an SSD.

The following produces a less fragmented virtual memory.
1. Optimize/defragment the drive.
2. Manually, set the virtual memory size to a higher number.

Though not recommended, virtual memory can be defragmented with the following steps.
1. Lightly load the system, by stopping extra programs.
2. Optimize or defragment the drive. This provides a less fragmented drive for the next 2 steps.
3. Reduce the maximum and initial sizes of virtual memory. (This may prevent step 4. and harm your system. I have not performed this step, on windows 8.1.)
4. Optimize or defragment the drive. This step reallocates where the fragmented virtual memory was.
5. Restore the maximum and initial sizes of virtual memory. This allocates new unfragmented virtual memory.

Changing and Defragmentation are two different things.

I agree that the page file is not directly operated on by the optimizer or defragmenter. However, the resizing of a defragmented volume produces a less fragmented page file. On earlier versions of windows, these steps have produced a much less fragmented page file.

3 Examples for Sizing Virtual Memory or Buying RAM

The previous posts recommend sizing virtual memory with the following rules of thumb. However, one post recommends setting the Initial and Maximum sizes the same.

The 1 GB RAM system's Step 9. and Step 10 recommendations are too small.
The 4 GB RAM system's Step 9. and Step 10 recommendations would be good.
The 8 GB RAM system's Step 9. and Step 10 recommendations would be too big.

The 4 GB RAM system has 1.5 GB free when running Explorer 11 with 4 tabs, Outlook, and Word. So, buying more RAM is not required. However, when Flight Simulator runs, the 3.5 GB of virtual memory probably gets used. So 4 more GB of RAM would run Flight Simulator faster by reducing or eliminating the use of virtual memory.

The worst performance for this 4.0 GB RAM system will occur when Flight Simulator needs to increase the virtual memory from 3.5 GB to 4.0 GB.
