Comcast "Finally" Doubled My Internet Download Speed

Per this article from last year:

Comcast upgrades speeds for Xfinity Internet Performance users for free - SlashGear

Better late than never (I guess):

How to upgrade your speed (if applicable):

Complete these easy steps to ensure you're receiving your faster speed:

    1 Shut down your computer
2 Unplug your modem from the electrical outlet
3 Plug your modem back in
4 Unplug your router from the electrical outlet
5 Plug your router back in
6 Wait 30 seconds and turn your computer back on
To ensure your modem is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and can take advantage of this speed increase, please click here:

Just curious to know if I'm one of the last ones to get this free upgrade.

    I live in southern NJ.

Just search Broadband Forums. You'll find plenty of discussion including dish, cable, fiber,TV, internet data etc.. Comcast isn't neglected.

I'd post the name of the one I participated on when I had Comcast. But it's been a few years. I don't remember the name of the site. I seem to have lost the bookmark.

    Thank you MilesAhead.

I was also a frequent-flyer at many of those broadband forums in the past but they bored me to tears so I don't even visit them anymore. Actually, my post was primarily intended to be an FYI (with some curiosity included) for this forum but thanks for your response and suggestions.

Especially with Comcast the Broadband Speed Test download number tends to be inflated. They tout "Power Boost" which is a surge at the start of the download. I found a more accurate gauge was a large download from GigaNews. After a few minutes the download speed is stabalized and you get a true number. The exception would be Business Class accounts. According to the Software Developer of Newsbin, his Comcast Business Class account was a steady 50 Mb/s. No surge. Of course this was a few years ago. He may be up to 100 or more by now.

That "boost" was an old Comcast trick that has gone by the wayside. I get the similar download speeds even when I use the Verizon test (that is much further away with an extra 10ms latency):

Now, if anyone would like to make a liar out of Comcast, it would certainly be that company.

These new speeds are consistent and for real.

That kicks ass. I was only getting about 1/3 of that down and about 8 Mb/s up. Oh well, at least I got to watch Tennis Channel in HD for about 6 months before I had to move out. Everything is over WiFi now. I've pretty much forgotten about TV and movies for the time being. One of these years I'll get cable back.
