Solved System Restore will not restore

I make manual System Restore points and when I try to use them to restore, it goes thru the motions but ends up saying System was not restored - returned to previous state. I make Macrium Reflect back-ups regularly and they work great - no problems. So, what I have done is turn off System Restore, and rely on Macruim Reflect images. SFC Scannow indicates NO corruption and completes fine.

My question is, should I worry about the fact that SR is not working - or, since I really don't need it, leave it disabled and not worry about it. System seems to be running ok.

Did you try turning off all anto-virus programs? It's fine to have Macrium backup images. I use it. But I think it's also good to have Restore Points for quickie Registry restore. If it is a big hassle to get it working you can use ERUNT to back up the Registry.

The only anti-virus on it is Windows Defender, but thanks for post - based on it, I went in registry and looked for old fragments of old av's used when I had Windows 7 on the pc - deleting them. Then I turned Windows Restore completely off and restarted the pc. I then made a restore point and used it to restore and it worked fine, so I guess it's solved. Thanks for your help.

I use AVG 2014 FREE, and with it on I'm well protected, but.....I can't do a system restore till I temporarily disable AVG.
I just right click on the AVG icon in the system tray and then click on "Temporarily Disable AVG Protection".

Then I can go ahead and do a system restore and it works every time.

Cheers Mates!
