I have 4 GBs ram with one slot empty.
You reckon it's worth the money to get another 4 GB stick ?

I can get one for $45 US.

8GB of ram would be better. It is best to use matching pairs

I bit the bullet & ordered a 4 GB companion to the one I have.

Now all I have to do is to figure out how to take the gateway apart to add it.

Own a Philips screw driver? That's all it takes. You just remove the two screws holding the side panel on, and you're in.

An absolute pleasure David, glad to give something back to you.

its a lot easier now than it was in the earlier days of computing with 30-pin ram modules / 256 KB ram. Ram went in either way from "memory" < see what I did there

Got it installed.
Cleaned the fan as long as I had it open.

screenshot_55.jpg

Half way through the operation a bomb went off.

I set up 3 gallons of wine to ferment.
The lid on 1 was too tight.
It blew up with tremendous force & noise. :(

It un-nerved me.

Now I'll cleanup the mess...

Oh no. Ive seen and heard that before.

here are the steps to fixing your issue:

1. Change pants. Its much easier to clean up when you're not walking funny.
2. DO NOT get on your hands and knees with a straw to clean the floor
3. Sing "whistle while you work" disney song while occupied. No reason for this but if you could video it and upload it to youtube, hits will be in the 1000's
4. Enjoy new ram!

I am still grateful for your pictures of a Gateway computer.
Once the side was off it was easy.

I used to have an Emachine.
The innards were the same.
Adding the RAM was simple.
