Hi not a big problem, but a niggle.I have a dual boot system Windows 7 & Windows 8.1
When I start my PC I get the DOS black and white 'Choose An Operating System'. But when I am in Windows 8.1 and restart, I get the Windows 8.1 (blue flag etc) 'Choose An Operating System'. What I want is to get the Windows 8.1 version all the time.Is this possible?

Firstly did you use two drives, each Oerating system on a single drive, this is the best way to instal dual boot and using single drive with partition puts alot of stress on HDD.. does your BIOS support dual boot, is there an update for BIOS... Win8 is new and ive found has some errors with a few advanced settings... your BIOS should allow you to choose default drive but if its on one drive you cant est that up... dual boots are good but must be setup right or you will spend hours fixing silly errors... Hi Jaynik
Both Operating systems are on one drive. Windows 7 is set as default on startup. But I have the choice to use either OS. I would just like to have the newer Windows 8.1 version as the screen I see on startup. Thanks

I'm pretty sure if you make Windows 8.1 the default operating system, then you will always get the windows 8 dual boot screen asking for which OS you choose.

Yeh i think your just confusing BIOS and Win start up.. i try not to partition operating system HDD and when ever ive done dual boot ive had non stop drama with same drive.. does your BIOS support dual boot, even if you get a cheap small drive and instal as slave then do dual boot, if the partition becomes unstable you may lose all data.. good luck

Dual booting on a single drive with Windows 8 is a gigantic catastrophe in my opinion.

It's not worth doing under any circumstance.

And why do you say that?

I have Win 8.1 and Ubuntu 13.10 in an older Dell Latitude E6400 laptop and it has worked with no problems for 7 months now.
