Windows 8 laggy interface.

Hi there, can anyone help me with my problem? My Windows 8 became laggy ever since I restarted my PC yesterday, March 28, around 5pm it was the first time I restarted my PC since Sunday, March 23. I have been looking for some solutions on Google and tried them but it didn't solved my problem.

I also haven't installed anything since March 24 and it was just Hearthstone (a game). The solutions I tried were scanning my PC using Windows Defender and ComboFix, both AV have not found issues. I also tried killing processes like sqlservr.exe, googledrivesync.exe and ReportingServicesService.exe but it didn't solve my problem also. Also, I did a System Restore which I thought would solve my problem, but didn't.

I also noticed earlier that whenever I boot in to the desktop of the OS, the UI will not lag but after a couple of minutes it will start to. It is very noticeable because the animations are slow like the animation of the sidebar when you put the cursor on the top-right or bottom-right of the screen, the animation on the Start menu and the animation of popping up of windows.

Can someone help me with this one? Thanks.

@Edwin, tried your solution but still, my PC is laggy. Also, I just noticed while watching videos on my PC, the animation is also not smooth. I'll try booting on in Safe Mode and see if I can solve the issue. Thanks for your suggestion brah.

Sorry it didn't help. I used it for both my Windows Laptop and my MacBook Pro. In both cases the memory usage went up and up and up. Perhaps Google have fixed it. In any case stop what you can - something is spoiling your experience. It was google for me - perhaps it is something else for you.

It's okay. Yeah I think it's some other application but the problem is, I couldn't find what it is on my Process Killer. Anyway, I was not able to boot into Safe Mode earlier but when I boot in to the desktop of Windows 8 I switched off my WLAN so my laptop will not connect on my WiFi and after 3 mins. I turned it on again and tried to open a video and the video played smoothly and somehow the lag on my laptop is gone. I'll try again to boot my laptop with the WLAN switched on. Maybe an application that requires an internet connection is hogging my memory?

UPDATE:
So I tried to boot my laptop and switched on the WLAN and it started to lag again.

Do you run utorrent all the time? It might hang up HDD when download/upload is high.
Also have you tried some cleaning software like https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner ?

Why? CCleaner is a bare necessity. It fixes so many problems, that I even used to reinstall Windows for.

If you feel cleaning your registry helps by all means go ahead. You may find it doesn't make anything any worse if you are lucky.

Excuse me if I don't and recommend others not to.

Do you have a dual boot? If you do I would recommend you try first to refresh your Windows 8 install and if that doesn't work, then do a clean install formatting your Windows 8 partition.

CCleaner is about cleaning temporary files not registry. It can do it as well, but it is so light, that calling it a registry cleaner is like calling a limuzine an off-road car, just because it is a car. :geek:

"limuzine" isn't a word. CCleaner has a registry cleaning option.

And you point is what? Use it or not?

I always have CCleaner on my PCs, it corrects/eliminates a LOT of registry errors, although I never noticed a performance difference
after of before using it.

And you therefore think it is a good thing? Because it hasn't made it worse? Like I always say - do so if you want. At best you'll not make anything worse. If you know better than Microsoft what a "registry error" is then you should ask them for a job.

Ok, I'm not trying to start an argument with you, but what do you suggest as a replacement for CCleaner? Some other software or simply doing nothing about registry errors?

No. Unless you really know what you are doing (in which case you wouldn't even ask the question) then don't try to play with the registry. Don't try to second guess performance. These guys all have PHD's in mathematics and we do not.

Don't try to clean the registry.
Don't change page file.
Don't make a RAM disk
Don't turn off pre-fetch.
Don't do anything in fact unless you really know what you are doing.

As a replacement for CCleaner - I'd suggest that you don't. If you feel you must use something then try one that doesn't involve you paying them.
