Scanning and repairing stuck - new problem

    Hi Guys
I've googled this problem a few times, and after reading countless threads I can't see much that is the same as the problem I am having

    I have a Laptop, HP Envy 17inch

It recently started giving me the blue screen errors, not very often but still enough to be noticeable

After a few google searches I was under the impression that doing a chkdsk command via the cmd prompt is best option to check for errors on a hard drive

I set it to perform this restart

I restarted it said scanning and repairing etc

Got stuck at 10% for ages, after reading that some people's has taken over 24 hours to complete

I figured I would go to sleep, upon waking I see that their is no

    Scanning and repairing C etc

It's just got a small loading circle with HP logo above it

Has been like this since 8am in the morning, it's now 3:25am the following night

Do I just let this run ? Or do I restart ?

If so what's best route... Holding down the power button ? Taking battery out ?

Sorry for the vagueness, I Thankyou in advance for any help you can offer me

It's no good to you as is.

If it was me, I would press the power button & shut it off & restart it.

Having a system image to restore to is good.
Macrium Reflect is a good program for that.

    Ok

Before I do that id like to hear someone else's opinion

Is restarting it like that not bad for the laptop or ?

it's basically frozen on a re-boot , all you can do is a hard-power reset (hold button till it powers off) and then re-start it and see what happens...

What David said , backup , backup and backup...

If HP has factory recovery disks it would be well worth the money to buy a set.

I have a Gateway & bought recovery disks for $20 US.
I have had to use them twice.
    Money well spent.

    Bought Macrium too.
    Money well spent.
