Is Windows 8.1 faster/lighter than Windows 7?

After numerous Windows 8 installations going back and forth between 7 and 8 I've finally decided to stay with Windows 8.1 Pro (x86). It feels lighter on the resources and even the gaming performance seems to have increased in relation to Windows 7 Ultimate.

It seems to me like W8.1 is a lot lighter on its feet than its predecessor despite all the hype about the new Metro UI. Once I got used to it, it became a more modern/practical OS to me, and above all significantly lighter/faster than Windows 7 Ultimate (x86).

Is this supported by facts? Is anyone feeling the same way?

Thx in advance!:D

I held off for a very long time moving to 8.1 from 7

I was infuriated that tablet interfaces had infiltrated my beloved windows OS. Ive used a PC since they were nothing but a blank screen. I can't even remember what I did with it.
Windows 3.1 was my favorite, Millennium made me laugh

All I needed were two apps and my 8.1 is just like 7 in the interface department. When I am inclined to use some of the nifty UI aspects of 8.1 I can do so with ease.
I find 8.1 to be the fastest OS Ive used in the past 12 years. I love it. I also find it extremely stable, maybe I'm just lucky.
What annoyances I do find., there is an answer for in here. I wouldn't go back for quids. I will add that I am a very hard man to please, stubborn and anal.

I use about half the apps Windows 8.1 has to offer, my favorite is the Video one with its video library giving you the option to pick your video folders and then see all your videos on there as big thumbnails, also now in 8.1 they added the Media Player Classic feature of being able to continue where you left off in any given video!! Great!!

I also have been using PCs for a long time now, since 1993 when they started to arrive here in Brazil. Back then your average ram was 2 or 3 Mb and that was enough for what were considered heavy games back then. I've used DOS pure and simple and then 3.1 and so forth until today. Before PCs came along my dad used to have an old Apple on which you had to use a sort of DOS interface and to write all your commands in order to use apps or games. I even remember my dad playing Flight Simulator 1.0 on that thing (or was it the PC already??)

Well now addays I am extremely happy with Windows 8.1 which as I said is a lot faster, practical and modern than any other OS available for the PC.

I switched to Windows 8.1 from Vista after the last PC died after 6 years of use.

The Metro app interface is fine. It looks cool and is easy to navigate once you understand it. I like being able to quickly download games and such from the Microsoft app store.

I do have some stability concerns. I've had issues with free games downloaded from the app store crashing. And I can't find any reason on my end why they would crash. It might be that the OS is so new that programmers haven't gotten the knack for coding for it yet.

I would suggest the game makers being at fault, not windows. Just my opinion.
