You could try this Notification Area Icons - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums it will update the registry for you using a batch file. Alternatively you can use CC Cleaner and tick the "Tray Notifications Cache" on the Advanced section.
Go to the link to 7 forums above, and follow the 6 steps after "Here's How". This will remove the old unused icons.
